I discovered Joan Druett a few years back, when I found her book Hen Frigates cited in a footnote of another book. It took me a while, but I found a copy of Hen Frigates and read it. Since then, if it's a non-fiction book by Joan Druett, I have to read it! A month or so ago, I came across another Druett book titled She Captains in a most unlikely place - a hardware store! - so of course, I bought it.
Druett is a maritime writer from New Zealand. Her husband is an artist and often does the illustrations for her books. Her latest effort, which I discovered on Amazon, is Island of the Lost. Having just recently seen Castaway with Tom Hanks, this story of two groups marooned on the same island simultaneously was an irresistable (and very satisfying) read for me.
